Those who 'like' our Facebook page or follow us on Twitter may have noticed a few posts about renovations. That's because we've been silly enough to do some. We try to redecorate the suites every year and this started as a simple redecoration scheme. However, new paint soon turned into retiling bathrooms, and then we decided that St Anthony (Suite 4) needed a bit of a makeover. So far so good.
The problem was that that got us looking at Trevose (Suite 1) and how we could remodel that to make the living space bigger. Lots of drawings on envelopes later and we seemed to have decided to move the kitchen, build a new en suite bathroom, and totally refurbish Trevose. The other little jobs we kept meaning to do, like retiling the Wolf Rock bathroom floor seemed like things we might as well do at the same time.
A month ago this all seemed really easy, and in a way it has been. We've been helped by some fabulous builders. Pete has knocked down and rebuilt walls, Mark carpenter has put the stud walls in and rebuilt the door frames, Dan has been plastering, Ben has been tiling, Mark plumber has been plumbing, Al has fitted more new spotlights than he ever dreamt of, and Grom has painted up a storm. The upshot is that we're getting there and we're on to the fun bits like ordering curtains and cushion covers. The new flooring is going into Trevose tomorrow and then we can fit the kitchen. We're keeping all the workmen happy with cookies and brownies and Tys has very little clothing that isn't covered in paint. Hopefully it will have been worth it when the first guests stay in the new suites. We've added underfloor heating in some places, and tried to make the suites a bit more luxurious.
We've had the odd day like today, where we were finishing off painting door frames at 7am, and then cleaning and putting furniture back to get ready for the guests arriving at 3, but mostly things have gone according to plan. The main annoyance today was that it was blissfully warm and sunny but we were stuck inside. I did finally make it out for a run, and for the first time this year was in just shorts and T shirt. The seals were sunbathing and there were tons of people on the beaches. In Top Cove I thought I was beginning to hallucinate builders when I saw a group of people in yellow hard hats. I stopped running, as I was genuinely concerned for my mental state, but fortunately they were just climbing the cliff there. There were horses on the beach too, and lots of dogs out and about. Spring has definitely sprung here now and the daffodils are amazing. My mother in law assures me that the daffodils are the best they've been for years, due to the cold winter making them go really dormant. Certainly the gardens around here look amazing and the daffodil fields even better.
So hopefully, by the time most of you come on holiday, the renovations will be a distant memory and the suites will be even nicer for you to stay in. We really hope you think that the effort has been worth it!
