Cornwall Design Season 2011

A leaflet came through our door a few weeks ago, advertising Cornwall Design Season. It took me a few days to get round to looking at it, but I'm so glad I did.

It is basically a multi site art exhibition at 15 locations across Cornwall, including Godrevy and St Ives. Various art galleries, like the Tate and Falmouth Art Gallery are also holding special events. However, the main part is the shipping containers (yes really) located at 15 unusual sites over the county. Each has been painted on the outside to be instantly recognisable. Inside the containers are mini exhibitions, each highlighting a 'design story'. Subjects were nominated by people from the design world and then interpreted by local designers and artists.

The current Godrevy exhibition has the Jubilee Pool in Penzance as its subject, and a worthy subject it is too. This runs until the 20th March, and then from the 26th March till 25th April the display changes to an exhibition about Zoeftig, a Cornish furniture design firm. They were painting the outside of the container today - definitely recognisable.

Other containers over the county cover subjects as diverse as the Cornish shovel, the King Harry Ferry and Shelterbox, as well as the wetsuit and St Ives modernism.

And just to make you jealous, this was the beach today. Sunny, perfect surf and cake at the Jampot Cafe.

UPDATE:
I finally made it into the container today. There are some fabulous photos of people at Jubilee Pool as well as some info about its design and when it was built.

They've finished painting as well and this is how it looks to anyone entering the Godrevy carpark. (The sky has been that blue for a few days now!)
